About ARENA

Armenian Research–Educational Networking Association Foundation was created in Yerevan, in 5 December 2000. The name ARENA is the abbreviation of the English name of the Foundation, i.e. Armenian Reseach-Educationa Networking Association.

The Foundation is a model networking assocoation of national research and educational institiutions, which have been established in Former Soviet Republics and are aimed at creating computer networks to insure the informational stream between research and educational institutions as well as to enhance them and connect with other research and educational networks, particularly, those of European countries.

Since its establishment ARENA has served to its own aim by creating and developing other research and educational networks in the Republic of Armenia. It has enhanced the informational stream of scientific societies, higher educational institutions, libraries and related organizations. In present ARENA includes 48 research and 34 higher educational institutions, such as the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and its institutions, Yerevan Physics Institute, Yerevan State University, State Engineering University of Armenia, Yerevan State Medical University, NFSAT and other organizations.

ARENA is managed by the Board of Trustees, the president of which is changed every 2 years according to the principle of rotation. The staff of Trustees is representational and allows to include the whole research and educational sphere defending the rights of all the involved organizations. The executive work of the Foundation is managed by the permanent staff of the Foundation and led by the chief executive officer.

The Foundation is famous for its projects, the most popular of which is “Virtual Silk Highway” Program, funded by NATO.
